Erve Sproakstee is an old Saxon meeting place. For centuries, justice was administered here in the Lutter Marke. The original site was located in the meadow opposite the group accommodation 't Keampke. Under a gigantic linden or oak, justice was rendered according to Saxon traditions (circa 500 or older). A leader was appointed for each village, such as later the Boerrichter, who would render his judgment - thus administering justice - on various ‘social’ issues. The pronouncement of death sentences (gallows) was reserved for the drost of Twente. The gallows to the right of the Kribbenbrug was last used in 1741. The Boerrichter was assisted by two sworn men, and the accused farmer sat in the middle of a circle of boulders. In later times, these meetings took place at Erve Boerrigter, now the Dorpshoes in De Lutte or in the Plechelmuskerk in Oldenzaal. Since 2013, the stone circle has been visible again on the grounds of the camping Sproakstee (Hanhofweg 10).
