Before you start your cycling trip and take a short walk into the forest at this spot, you will come across the
Fonteinsnol. Here you will not find a water feature, as the name might suggest,
but a lookout tower. Nol is another word for dune, and fountain refers to a
water spring that used to be found here. From the tower, you have a beautiful view over the
National Park Dunes of Texel that you will soon be cycling through, and you can also
see De Hoge Berg. Close to the tower, you will find a memorial monument. Here an
English bomber crashed during World War II. The forest surrounding the
lookout tower is also a natural forest playground. You are allowed to build huts from branches that
are lying on the ground.
