Every time I find myself cycling on the Noordduinpad near Julianadorp, I tell myself to explore this area on foot. The winding paths through the dunes are not only fun to race through on a bike but also deserve closer attention. Today is the day, a Monday in mid-November when there just happens to be a too strong wind for a bike ride.
The deserted parking lot at cafeteria Duinzicht at this time of year is my starting and ending point. From there, I first cross the beach path Drooghe Weert and then head north along the beach. On this expansive stretch of North Sea coast, it is never really crowded, and on this windy, cold autumn day, I share the beach with just a handful of people. Oh, and some incredibly fast sanderlings, who, like me, are trying to dodge the waves in the surf.
