The court is the oldest and certainly one of the most beautiful beguinages in the Netherlands. It has been around for over 750 years. Beguines were single women who dedicated their lives to God but did not take vows for a celibate life like a nun. They did, however, dress in a black habit just like nuns. Take a look around the beguinage with the herb garden and the St. Catharinakerkje. The museum shows the world of the Breda beguines, such as a living room and kitchen from earlier times. This way you can see how the beguines have lived in this courtyard for years.
