Joe Mann was an American soldier who was killed at the bridge over the Wilhelminakanaal near Son, by sacrificing himself for his fellow soldiers. This route visits several places related to him.
The walk starts on the outskirts of Eindhoven and goes through rural areas to the Joe Mann monument, near the place where Joe Mann lost his life. We continue to the Joe Mann open-air theater and museum Wings of Liberation. The route returns to the starting point via Son, Nederwetten, and the Dommeldal. The route coincides in part with the Airborne route from Lommel to Arnhem.
Amnesty International invites you to reflect on peace and freedom with this route, and the people who gave their lives for it. In particular, around May 4th and 5th, this route has a special meaning.
