This Cretaceous walking route takes you to the most beautiful (unknown) places of Valkenburg.

During this walking route you will discover the calcareous and green surroundings in the outskirts of Valkenburg. The medieval tradition of underground marl mining created above-ground monuments. Houses at the time were made of loam and wood. For a building such as a church or a castle, people even went underground here in Valkenburg. There, the golden yellow marl blocks were broken loose to build, among other things, the castles of Valkenburg, Schaloen and Genhoes and the imposingly located Sint-Mauritiuskerk. They are located in the hilly landscape of the Geuldal, which provides breathtaking views during your walk. The route partly follows the Geul, which you leave to discover the wonders of the Schaelsberg and the fairytale paths of the Sint-Jansbosch.
