The route starts at the public car park of the castle of Houthem-St. Gerlach.
You go directly towards the Geul, through nature reserve Ingendael where you cross the Geul. Then it is climbing through the slope forest to Berg en Terblijt.
Between Berg and Terblijt you follow asphalt roads for a while and then the route turns back to unpaved roads, namely through Quarry Blom (descending steeply) and then descending through a grubbe (a dry valley) called Koelbosgrub. You will also pass underground quarries Winkelberg and Cruysberg. Near Bemelen you climb steeply out of the valley and you are rewarded with beautiful views towards Bemelen from the Bemelerberg. Via partly paved, partly unpaved roads you stay on the plateau west of Berg en Terblijt with sometimes beautiful views towards Maastricht. Then you dive back into the slope forests of the Geuldal. You now pass the former opencast quarry Curfs (with viewpoint), which is now set up as a nature reserve, and the Kuil van Curfs (marls). You leave the mud boot path on the route. Finally you descend (partly over a long iron staircase) to the Geuldal. Then there remains a flat passage through the Geuldal on partly unpaved roads to Houthem-St.Gerlach.
