The Pieterpad was conceived, walked, and described between 1978 and 1983 by Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma from Tilburg and Bertje Jens from Groningen. Two friends who felt that the Netherlands could really use a serious long-distance path. They were inspired by a hiking trip in the Black Forest in Germany and wanted to create something similar in the Netherlands. At your own pace, you experience how enjoyable it is to walk through landscapes and regions that you may have previously only seen from a car or train. The Pieterpad takes you along the smallest roads and paths, as unpaved as possible. You determine the distance per day yourself, but far away from all daily concerns, you always have a delightful hiking experience.
