Description by the author

This 42-kilometre-long route in and around Breda highlights the triumphal entry of the Polish troops. Under the command of General Maczek, they liberated the city in 1944. Thanks to Maczek's excellent strategic acumen, much of the city was spared. Despite this, there is plenty of grief and remembrance for the residents and local residents. From the tragic events in the woods, because the war lasted just a little too long for some, to the intense street fighting. On September 5, 1944, known as "Mad Tuesday," the end of World War II was announced. The resistance began to operate quietly, but how long can you keep that up?

The Liberation Route Brabant tells the story of the liberation, but also shows what the Second World War meant for ordinary people in Brabant. Eight cycling routes, spread across North Brabant, lead you past Brabant Reminders stories, listening columns of the Liberation Route Europe, monuments and museums, which together make the impact of the war on North Brabant visible.
