Hiking stage 4: Sint-Oedenrode – Uden | Liberation Route Brabant

Follow the path of the Hell's Highway and pay a visit to the Eerdse windmill, which served as an observation post. This 23-kilometre stage takes you along the fourth segment of the route taken by the liberators on Dutch soil. The Liberation Route Brabant tells the story of the liberation and also sheds light on the impact of the Second World War on the ordinary population of Brabant. The entire route covers 125 kilometers and is divided into five stages. This stage follows the Airborne Walking Trail, which tells the story of Operation Market Garden. During this operation, roads and bridges had to be captured to bypass the Siegfried Line via Arnhem, so that the Allied army could advance towards Berlin.

The route takes you past historical places, marked by courage, sadness, fear and hope. Soldiers, residents, refugees and occupiers saw their lives changed here. Reflect on what happened during the war in North Brabant and in these places in particular.
