Description by the author

The Van Gogh NP Walking Route in Helvoirt takes you through the Brabant landscape and the places where the Van Gogh family lived and where Vincent felt at home. The 15-kilometre walk starts at the Saint Nicholas Church and continues through forests, open meadows and past fens. Along the way, you'll pass historic buildings, such as Zwijnsbergen Castle, and natural sights, such as the Loonse and Drunense Duinen and the Hengstven. Rest stops along the way offer you the opportunity to enjoy the view. You can also visit farm shops for local products and Hotel De Guldenberg for a culinary stop. With this route, you will walk in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh and discover the beautiful landscape that he loved so much.

Stroll through Vincent's place of family life and inspiration
Welcome to Helvoirt. This charming village, in the middle of Van Gogh National Park, is located in an authentic Brabant landscape with meandering streams, marshlands, sand drifts and farmlands. Vincent van Gogh and his family have a special bond with this village. It is a place of family life and inspiration for young Vincent. From 1871 to 1875 his father was pastor here. In addition to Vincent's parents and brothers and sisters, several family members live here. Vincent was only too happy to visit them. This is where he comes home. This walking route is 75% unpaved. You walk from the village centre through the characteristic farmland that inspired Vincent and that is largely being restored here.
