Historical City Walk Hoorn

This historic city walk (4.3 km) starts and ends at the Roode Steen in Hoorn. If you come to Hoorn by car or train, you can start/end the walk at a different point if you wish.
De Roode Steen is the central square of the city at the intersection of Grote Noord, Kerkstraat and Grote Oost. De Roode Steen is surrounded by a collection of monumental buildings, the Westfries Museum and the Waag are located on the square.

In the center of the square is the statue of Jan Pieterszoon Coen (1587 – 1629), administrator of the VOC and conqueror of the former Dutch East Indies. Near the base of the statue lies a large red stone. This is the place where many executions were carried out in the past. A lot of blood was shed. The original red stone is located in the aforementioned Westfries Museum.
