Walking route De Heidsche Peel is 5.1 kilometers long and takes you through the area of the same name, a fairly isolated remnant of the Peel of about 150 hectares.
Nature reserve De Heidsche Peel
In the early 1960s, this was one of the very last large heathland reclamations in the Netherlands. Because this reclamation largely failed, a 'chessboard pattern' was formed in which blocks of agricultural land and nature reserve alternate. The province of Limburg has since begun to purchase about 60 hectares of the agricultural land lying between the nature reserve to return it to nature.
