Stevensweert is located together with the neighboring village of Ohé en laak on the Island in the Maas. During the Eighty Years' War, this island was conquered by the Spaniards in 1633. They immediately began constructing virtually impregnable fortifications spread throughout the entire island. All streets radiate like spokes in a wheel to the center, a unique street pattern in the Netherlands.
The route starts at the VVV Stevensweert, where the Stevensweert-Ohé en laak museum is also located. The route also takes you over the reconstruction of the fortifications.
