On this route, which can easily be split into two routes, the mining past lies right beneath your feet. A past that goes back to the 12th century, when coal was already being mined here. After the mine closure in the 1970s, nature was given space again. You can fully enjoy this during this walk where you go back to the mining era.

This varied walking route takes you through three characteristic areas: the historic Rolduc, the estate Erenstein, and the surroundings of the mine tailings mountain at SnowWorld. Along the way, you will discover the impressive staircase complex, known as the longest stairs in the Netherlands, and walk past water features that create a pleasant atmosphere.

Rolduc offers a special combination of heritage and nature, with a former abbey, a brewery, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Near Strijthagen, you will pass artworks placed around the pond and the castle that gives the landscape a stately appearance. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to take a break and have something to eat, making this route ideal for a relaxing day outdoors. Not much time? The route can be split into 2 loops with a shortcut via junction 10 and junction 76.
