Stramproy - Tungelroy - purple - 6.9 km

You occasionally walk right next to the brook and then a little further away. Via the Linjer Brökske, you return to the center of Stramproy, the route used to be called Ommetje Linjer Brökske. You pass several wayside crosses, the De Nijs mill, and the St. John's mill, the oldest authentic windmill in Weert. References to the existence of this windmill date back to the 16th century. You also come across the reconstruction of the Roman bridge over the Tungelroyse Beek. The bridge from 27 AD was originally built over the narrowest part of the brook. It was reconstructed a while ago a little further along to avoid damaging the original remains in the soil. You also walk along the Tungelerwallen, a dry area with a lot of drifting sand. These Tungelerwallen would never have existed without human intervention. Just like the other drifting sand areas in KempenBroek, the initial push for these landscapes was already given before our era. During the Bronze Age, patches of forest were set on fire using the prevailing burning culture to use them as fields for a number of years. These were abandoned after a few years when the soil was depleted and the exposed sandy ground began to drift.
