This diverse loop of over 55 km takes you from the university town of Franeker along terp villages, dikes, and the Wadden Sea, with an abundance of stories about faith, freedom, and water management along the way. You depart from Franeker, where the Renaissance town hall, stinzen, the Royal Eise Eisinga Planetarium, and the Oort Cloud fountain remind you of the rich academic past and the Frisian contribution to astronomy. You cycle past ancient churches, protected village landscapes, and the statue of Grutte Pier, a symbol of the Frisian fight for freedom, through Achlum and Kimswerd.

At the coast, you discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wadden Sea near Zurich and follow the line to the Afsluitdijk, the Lorentz sluices, and the Casemate Museum, where stories of hydraulic engineering and the Battle of the Afsluitdijk come together. Inland, Pingjum and Witmarsum lead you in the footsteps of Menno Simons and the Anabaptist hiding churches, still a pilgrimage site for Mennonites from all over the world. Via Lollum, Tzum, and Hitzum, with their distinctive church towers and farms in the open clay landscape, you return to Franeker, where the pelota fields, museums, and tea houses on the bastions invite you to reminisce about a day full of Frisian stories.
