Along the Sallandian Ash Trees

The route 'Along the Salland Heath' is part of a collection of eight routes around Nijverdal on the border of Salland and Twente. Each route runs between two stations, making them suitable for independent walks. The routes range from 20 to 24 km long and can be easily combined into multi-day hikes, with Nijverdal as the base. Each one offers stunning walks through ancient cultural landscapes at the border of Salland and Twente.

The route described here runs along the eastern edge of the Salland Ridge from Rijssen station via Hellendoorn to Nijverdal station. It is the border area between high sandy ridges with forests and rising arable land, the heaths. This cultural landscape has developed about 2000 years ago. There are no food and beverage facilities along the way.
