Islands and forests

To/from: Depart from the (busy) parking lot * of Leersumse Veld on Woudenbergseweg (N226) between Maarsbergen and Leersum, in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug municipality. Free parking.

This is a beautiful and varied hiker's trail in almost any season. After 800 meters, the trail begins near the island (not accessible) in the first pond of the Leersumse Veld. After 8 km, you'll pass through the grounds of the Valkenheide youth center and the woods, reaching the viewpoint of the boulder island in the Maarn sand pit. This geological monument is only accessible with a guide. The moderately hilly return route passes the Maarten Maartenshuis (not accessible) and goes through the woods of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park.
