In nature reserve De Groote Peel you walk on a springy peat soil. Once there was two to four meters of peat here, built up in 10,000 years. That black gold has largely disappeared, but in its place came a varied landscape with swamps, sandy plains and ponds. Bonus: the blooming heather in August.
