The 100 km of Appelscha is a long-distance hike that lets you leave everyday worries behind as you immerse yourself in unspoilt nature. Set off for a few days and spend the nights at campsites, or enjoy a little more comfort at a small hotel or B&B along the route.
A national park and countless nature reserves
Along the way, you’ll walk through vast forests, across purple heathland and past drifting sand dunes and unique peatlands. Highlights include Drents-Friese Wold, Fochteloërveen, Duurswouderheide and Blauwe Bos. You’ll also pass charming villages and remarkable sights, such as the Bosbergtoren.
Set your own pace
The best thing about this route is that you decide how to divide up the 100 kilometres. Choose stages that suit your walking pace and turn it into a multi-day hike. There are plenty of campsites, B&Bs and other places to stay along the route, so you can make the most of the peace and nature along the way. Be sure to take a break at one of the cafés or restaurants en route, or try local produce from roadside stalls. Time to enjoy yourself.
Follow the junctions
Follow the walking route using the numbered junctions. Print out the junctions with the route leaflet so you’ll know exactly where to go next—even if your phone runs out of battery. Or order the 100 km hiking guide.
