Fastest public transport connection between start and end point: Scherpenzeel, stop Kerk: bus X80 dir. Rhenen, get off: Station Veenendaal - De Klomp. Change to bus 50, direction Utrecht, get off Amerongen, bus stop Dorp. Travel time approx. 60 min.

This route leads through two completely different landscapes. First through the forests of the Nat. Park De Utrechtse Heuvelrug and then through the meadows of De Gelderse Vallei.
From the historic center of Amerongen with its castle and Andrieskerk it slowly but surely goes 'uphill'. On the Landgoed de Hoge Ginkel the highest point (65m) of this route is reached. Then the trail continues north and we descend over gentle slopes and through the most beautiful Douglas fir forest of the Nat. Park. You sometimes imagine yourself here in the Belgian Ardennes!
On the north side of the ridge we enter the Leersumseveld with the associated lakes.
A unique nature reserve in which wild Piedmontese mountain cows graze.
A man-made barrier must be taken before entering the Gelderse Vallei: the A12 motorway and the parallel Utrecht - Arnhem railway line. Fifteen minutes of walking and you leave all that behind you. And you will be rewarded: First over the old railway embankment of the Amersfoort – Kesteren line and a little later over the Grebbeliniedijk along the Valleikanaal on a route where only the walker is welcome. Then the tower of the Grote Kerk of Scherpenzeel comes into view. Before we get there we defille in front of the beautiful House Scherpenzeel.
Unnoticed, you have also arrived in another province with this route. Started in the province of Utrecht, here you are in Gelderland!
