Until 2021, the Tour of Flanders moves to Antwerp, and this city was not chosen by the organizer Flanders Classics by chance. “Antwerp is a city with a national and international appeal that really establishes itself as a cycling city and thus also as a sports city in Belgium,” says race director Wim van Herreweghe. “Every year, thousands of runners flock to Antwerp for the 10 Miles, the Scheldeprijs Schoten takes place annually, and Antwerp already hosted the Tour de France in 2015. In 2020, the city also celebrates that it had the honor of hosting the Olympic Games 100 years ago. Antwerp combines a hip appearance with a beautiful historical backdrop, something that the Tour of Flanders can fully identify with,” says Van Herreweghe. “The start at the Grote Markt is therefore perfect to highlight this unique combination.”
