A varied route, a variant of the Theo Middelkamp cycling route (with shortcut), starting from the picturesque fortress town of Hulst. The route leads along ditches and dams lined with tall trees, eventually reaching the Terneuzen-Gent canal. You follow the cycle path on the dike and cross the canal at Sas van Gent. Soon, the roads become rural again, and you head towards Belgium. Upon entering Belgium, you are immediately treated to a cobbled section and a beautiful ditch. This area is part of Meetjesland. Over many dikes and along ditches, you reach Boekhoute, where a castle stands and an old ship serves as a reminder that this was once a fishing village. You then cross the Leopold Canal and re-enter the Netherlands at Isabellahaven: yes, there is also a cobbled section right at the border crossing here. You then head towards Terneuzen-South. This is not a difficult stretch, as there is a wide cycle path situated at a generous distance from the main road. However, you will need to cross some intersecting roads at traffic lights. The last part of the route leads to the Western Scheldt, where you follow the cycle path outside the dike for a long time. You then cross through the polders to the Western Scheldt, and again the route is outside the dike, where you can see a piece of the drowned land of Saeftinghe. You then return to Hulst via Emmadorp and Zandberg.
