Leenderstrijp and Achelse Kluis

The circular hike leads through the beautiful nature reserve Leenderbos with forests, heath fields, and moors to the Achelse Kluis and further through fields, meadows, and along a lovely little stream back to the starting point. From the starting point in Leenderstrijp, the path leads a short distance through the village to the nature reserve. Via a narrow sandy path through the forest, one reaches the first heath field with moors. Continuing on sandy paths, the route passes through forests, over large heath areas with many moors to a meadow where, among other things, Scottish Highlanders graze and a beautiful observation tower stands. Soon, the Abbey De Achelse Kluis is reached. Here, among other things, there is a brewery, shops, exhibitions, and a brasserie. A short rest on the terrace to enjoy a Trappist beer or another drink or dish. Back to the route and further through a magnificent landscape with expansive heath fields. Further down, one reaches a grassy path that runs along a stream. Dozens of horses graze in the meadows on the left and right. One must pass under a fence twice. The hike continues along the stream back to the starting point. Near the endpoint, there is the bicycle-hiking café de Hospes for a snack and a drink. The hike can start at 2 locations: 1- in Leenderstrijp at the parking lot at Strijperstraat 51a; 2- at the parking lot at the nature portal de Achelse Kluis, Petrus van Eijnattenlaan Leende.
