Gasterse Dunes

In the northwest of the village of Gasteren lie the Gasterse Dunes. Although small, they are among the most beautiful heath and sand areas of Drenthe. Undoubtedly unique is the location
in the water valley of the Drentsche Aa. The nature reserve is situated between the Gastersche Diep, the Oudemolensche Diep, and the Anlooër Diepje. The medieval
footprints and the Hunebedde indicate that humans have been leaving traces in the Gasterse Dunes for at least 5000 years.
On the paths in the northern part, waterproof shoes or boots are essential in wet weather. A large part is impassable for wheelchairs and strollers.
