This green cycling route takes you through shady forests and past impressive hunebeds: the historical jewels of the Drenthe landscape. You cycle through the greenery of the Boswachterij Exloo, where the hilly terrain alternates between coniferous and deciduous forests, open heath, and sand dunes. The forest is dotted with traces from a distant past. Next to the hunebeds, you will also find an old boundary stone and a overgrown crater that was formed during the Ice Age. In Borger, the Hunebedcentrum Borger stands, where you can learn everything about the ice ages, prehistory, and the unique human structures that have survived from that time: the imposing and mysterious hunebeds made of gigantic stones.
The route consists of the following junctions:
20 - 22 - 40 - 43 - 44 - 44 - 23 - 20
