From the Wierden village of Garnwerd, with its characteristic narrow alleys, you walk through the area of 'Middag'. This characteristic wierd landscape is the oldest cultural landscape in Europe. Sights you encounter along the way include the De Meeuw mill (1851), the old locks (1706 and 1867), and Allersmaborg, a residential house from the 18th century. On the way back, the longest hiking route leads along a beautiful, winding path through a lovely, bird-rich meadow area.
