From Harpel, you walk along the Metbroek forest (remnants of the primeval forest) and over the Ellersinghuizerveld, a large agricultural area that has been controversial for years. During the major land consolidation project, both farmers and conservationists claimed the area. Ultimately, it was decided to revert the area to its state of around 1850: heathland, poor grassland, a bog, and rough terrain with an open, expansive character.
