Sellingen is one of the oldest villages in Westerwolde. The "year of birth" is stated as 857, although the first priest had already established himself earlier in Esdorp with Brink, which is well situated in the valley of the Ruiten Aa. The walk takes you through a varied area with small forests, hedges, meadows, and fields. In the 1970s, the area was discussed to become a military training ground. Fortunately, this plan was rejected for the hikers.
