The hike leads through a landscape that belonged to the North Sea 1000 years ago. People lived on mounds. After the construction of the dikes, it was also possible to live on the flood areas. The accumulated land outside the dikes belonged to the neighboring farmers, who have reclaimed the fertile land over time. Through the exercise of this right of expansion, the areas grew larger and larger. The impressive farms still bear witness to this.
