After the Middle Ages, a lot of land was reclaimed in this region by the Wadden Sea; Warffum, Pieterburen, and Uithuizen were still by the sea at that time. This hiking route takes you through all this new land and over the dike with spectacular views over the North Polder, the aux-dijk lands, the Wadden Sea, and (on clear days) the Wadden Islands Rottum and Borkum. In the vast North Polder, you often walk along long straight asphalt paths, with, as you will see, here and there beautiful (privately owned) farm roads. The picturesque church paths through Warffum, the smallest fishing harbor in our country (in Nordpolderzijl, with an authentic harbor café), and the magnificent winding paths through the Warffumer forest at the end of the hike make up for it fortunately.
