From Groote Keeten to Den Helder

In Groote Keeten, Connexxion Bus 152 (to Callantsoog Stuyvezandeweg) comes from Schagen station. Get off at the Groote Keete stop, at Duinweg. - Bus 152 runs once an hour from Schagen.

In Groote Keeten on this side of the dunes, there is the restaurant de Princen Keet, over the dune at the beach lies the beach pavilion Klavertje 4.

The walk begins for me with a round trip through the Botgat at Groote Keeten, around a dune valley with a viewpoint (2 km). Back at Groote Keeten, you walk north along the beach.

After post 8, you take the beach path Drooghe Weert (the first after Groote Keeten). At a higher dune on the right, take the path left through the dunes. It leads to a cycle path. Follow the cycle path to the beach access Julianadorp (T-junction). Here turn left towards the beach (with restaurant post 6) and walk right on the beach to the north. To the next beach access, beach access de Zandloper (with beach pavilion Zeeën van Tijd). Over the beach access through dunes (cycle path) to the fork.

Alternatively: at the T-junction (at beach access Julianadorp) turn right, follow the cycle path through the dunes. At the fork keep left, through dunes and later along the edge of the dunes northwards. To beach access de Zandloper. There again into the dunes.

At the intersection of the cycle paths at beach access de Zandloper from the beach turn left (right if you're coming over the cycle path along the dune edge from beach access Julianadorp).
To the right of the cycle path leads a nice path over the ridge of the dunes. The path later returns to the cycle path.

From the next beach access (Falga) take the footpath to the right of the cycle path (with LAW coastal path marking). Up to the forest on the right: the Donkere Duinen. At the beginning of it, on the right, is the gastronomy establishment Duinoord. Continue along the path along the Donkere Duin. Further ahead, it merges into the cycle path.
On the other side of the Donkere Duin, turn left, take the path along the edge of the forest (Hengstepad). At the first path, turn left (Gaatjespad Streepjesberg). Around the Grafelijkheidsduinen. To Fort Kijkduin at Huisuinen. (On the left is a nice spot of cliff-dune with interesting vegetation).

The walk follows from here the dike with a view over sea and land. On the right lies the former Fort Erfprins.

Leave the dike at the church and head into Den Helder. Along the Koningsplein, pass the church and then turn left (Oostslootstraat) and immediately right into Koningsstraat. Here lies the café De Spot. A bit further (turn right onto Spoorstraat and then left) in Prinsenstraat is café de Boell. After that turn right (Californiestraat) and again left into Keizersstraat, you arrive at Beatrixstraat with the city café Flow. Turn right over Beatrixstraat you reach Den Helder station.
