A beautiful cycling route around Lochem through neighboring towns. We start in Laren at the church and go through paths and alleys past the castle in Exel and Ampsen. Along Keppellaan by the castle De Cloese, we reach the hamlet Zwiep and then Barchem. We continue our ride to the castle De Wildenborg and take a detour through Het Grote Veld to De Velhost, where we cross the meandering river Berkel and arrive in Almen, a place made famous by the poet Staring (see https://www.museumstaal.nl/). Behind the Hotel Landgoed Ehzerwold, we cross the Berkel again via a classic drawbridge and pass the gardens of the castle De Velhorst, then return to Laren through Groot Dochteren, past the castle 't Ross. (On this last section, we might take a short walk along the Berkel to the tea house of Staring's daughter.)
