Leg 6: Galder – Breda

We take a long 'run-up' to Breda. But it is the most beautiful we could think of! Soon after we have left Galder we arrive at the bank of De Boven-Mark. This river originates at the Turnhoutse Heide in Belgium and once across the border takes on beautiful meandering shapes. Walkers and cyclists wind together in the direction of the Baroniestad. You will continue to take pictures along this part of the tour. But Bouvigne Castle is also photogenic. In the Eighty Years' War, Prince Frederik Hendrik had his headquarters here when he tried to take Breda. The hiker nowadays has it a lot easier in that respect. Still following De Mark, we finally arrive in the city center. The route ends at the doors of the Church of Our Lady. Take the trouble to take a look inside the church at the beautifully restored mural of St. Christopher.

Fastest connection by public transport between start and end point: On foot from the Grote Markt to Busstation Breda (behind station) Bus 6 (dir. Meersel), get off at the Smidshof stop in Galder. (bus 6 does not run on Sat-Sun)
