On foot from Antwerp to Veenendaal
Leg 9: Hank - Woudrichem

This route takes the hiker through the Land of Altena and along the edge of the Biesbosch. You will pass through the pilot whales where willows are still cut and also past the Griendwerkershut, a replica of the shelter for the men who used to work here. Along the beautiful Bakkerskil, an old creek between Biesbosch and Merwede, Fort Bakkerskil is reached and with it the beginning of the New Dutch Water Line. Half an hour later you pass another fortress: the majestic Fort Altena. Between two photogenic seesaw mills, De Zandwijkse- and Uitwijkse Molen, we come across a brand new estate: Kraaiveld. You will be introduced to the way in which new living space can be developed on former agricultural land. Through the ribbon village Oudendijk you come to the Merwede. First take a look from Het Vinkennestje over the river and nature reserve de Groesplaat. You can see the city of Gorinchem on the other side. After a pleasant walk on the Merwededijk, the fortified town of Woudrichem is reached. This part of the route ends at the foot of De Musterdpot, as the inhabitants of Woudrichem call their St. Martinus church.

Fastest connection by public transport between start and end point: On foot in approx. 10min. to bus stop Het Rondeel in Woudrichem. From there take bus 121 direction Gorinchem. Get off stop Tol West, Sleeuwijk. From there take bus 401 direction Breda, get off stop Rijksweg A27, Hank.
