Nature Border Park Groote Heide and the Achelse Kluis

On both sides of the Belgian-Dutch border, between Eindhoven and the Belgian municipalities of Neerpelt and Hamont-Achel, lies the De Groote Heide Nature Boundary Park: 6000 hectares of tirelessly beautiful nature, of which a large part is Natura2000 area. In terms of biodiversity, De Groote Heide ranks among the top ten in Europe. In fact, it is a sum of many smaller nature reserves that are connected by a network of cycling and walking paths. And not to forget: dozens of ponds scattered throughout the area, along with a wide range of streams and small rivers flowing from the south, which merge into the Dommel near Eindhoven.

We begin at the Trappist Abbey Achelse Kluis, which is situated in the midst of forests and heathland. The Achelse Trappist is brewed here and can be enjoyed in the attached inn or purchased at the abbey shop. Halfway through, you can also stop at two inns in the village of Gastel.
