Amerongen, Wijk bij Duurstede, Darthuizen

Amerongen Castle and Doorn House have interesting museums and gardens that are part of the rural castle line. The last emperor of Germany, Kaiser Wilhelm II, stayed in Amerongen Castle for a year and a half and signed his abdication here, which marked the end of the First World War. After this, Wilhelm stayed in exile in the nearby Huis Doorn until his death. During this cycle route you will pass various castles and estates on and near the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. In addition to Amerongen Castle, you will pass Duurstede Castle, Sandenburg Castle, Lunenburg Castle and Ridderhofstad Castle Hindersteyn.
