De Haar is the largest castle in the Netherlands and it breathes a lot of opulence and grandeur. The Haar was a real destination for the jet set in the seventies, with welcome guests such as Roger Moore, Joan Collins and Brigitte Bardot. Zuylen Castle is characterized as an intimate noble house with a well-preserved 18th century collection, which is well worth a visit. Both are part of the national storyline castles and country estates, in which the most beautiful castle museums and gardens are highlighted. We also recommend enjoying a coffee in the Coach House of the Haar or a soup of fresh vegetables from our own garden at Slot Zuilen.

The bike tour starts and ends in the village of Haarzuilens, where you can park for free and possibly rent a bicycle or e-bike. There are also several cafés and restaurants to relax from the trip beforehand. After a stretch through the built-up area, you will soon cycle to the river De Vecht, called by many the most beautiful river in the Netherlands. Here are still several historic country estates and castles of wealthy rich and nobility. From the Golden Age (17th century) this region was a very pleasant place for the very rich from Amsterdam to stay in the summer months and escape the dirty and dusty city. You will pass several country estates on the route or see them from a distance.
