Many Dutch people who travel south to cycle in South Limburg go to Valkenburg or even further into South Limburg. However, you can also start directly below Geleen and connect many climbs in the northern part of South Limburg.

You follow the route counterclockwise and start in Genhout, near Spaubeek. It is easily accessible via the A76 (exit Spaubeek). However, there is no exit Spaubeek for the western direction on the way back. You will then have to drive to Neerbeek to take the exit to the A76 from there.

The first 9 km from Genhout are easy riding. You first head towards Elsloo to descend into the Maas Valley over the cobblestones (exit Maasberg). Once at the bottom, you ride past the Elsloo Castle. Near Geulle, you initially follow the Slingerberg, then you descend the Snijdersberg and then climb the Schieversberg.

Then you ride towards Bunde and Schietecoven and descend the Biesenberg, which had a completely renewed roadway in 2020, with a magnificent view of the hills before you. Next is the climb to Visweg. After descending into the Geuldal, you ride along the Geul for a few kilometers on a road closed to motor traffic. On nice weather days, it can be full of hikers here! You leave the Geuldal by climbing up the Geulhemmerbergweg.

After that, you head towards Maastricht along the long descent of Kuitenberg, you ride along the eastern border of Maastricht and then ascend the Mergelgrube 't Rooth via an exposed paved cycle path. Then you go towards Berg and Terblijt and descend the steep Brakkeberg (14%). Through Houthem and the climbs of In de Schreub and Kleverberg, you reach Groß- und Klein Haasdal.

Along very rural paths, you ride to the hidden hamlets of Helle and Terstraten and ascend from the hamlet of Terstraten. You descend the plateau of Schimmert towards Spaubeek and finally, you climb up the Hobbelrade to arrive back in Genhout.
