WWu Holten - Deventer 90km

This beautiful round trip from Holten to Deventer and back can only be undertaken from the end of April to the end of October. Along the way, you cross the IJssel twice on a ferry. The town centers are avoided as much as possible.

You start in Holten and ride on well-maintained, car-free roads between the fields to Olst. In Olst, you cross the IJssel for the first time with the Olster ferry (opening hours: Monday to Friday: 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM, Saturday: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM, and Sundays and holidays: 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM).

After that, you ride for a while along the dike by the IJssel. In Terwolde, you briefly leave the IJssel. Back at the IJssel, you cross the IJssel in Deventer via a bridge to ride through the city for a bit. This section can easily be skipped by not crossing the bridge and following the bike path along the IJssel until you rejoin the route at the next bridge a bit further on.

After passing through Deventer, you continue along the IJssel and cross the IJssel for the second time at Gorssel with the Dommerholts ferry, which only transports cyclists and pedestrians. The Dommerholts ferry operates from the end of April to the beginning of October. Pedestrians and cyclists can then cross the IJssel daily from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM (moped riders are not allowed).

After Gorssel, you continue along well-maintained paths back to Holten.

The route is paved everywhere. Major roads are avoided as much as possible. In total, you ride 90 km with hardly any elevation gain.
