From the NS station in Lochem, we start this route along the Stationsweg towards Markelo. After about 1 km, we follow a cycle path that has been laid out on the sandy dam of the Twente Canal. In Markelo, we continue the route over the Herikerberg and the Markeloseberg (beautiful view) into the nature reserve De Borkeld. With a bit of luck, we may see the shepherd with his flock of sheep and the cows roaming around. De Borkeld is a beautifully extensive nature reserve with well-maintained cycle paths, which is at its most beautiful when the heather is in bloom. We cycle across the lakes of the sand pit Domelaar on quiet roads and paths to Laren and return to the starting point via the estate and castle Ampsen. In addition to picnic areas available at various locations, there are also regularly café-restaurants with terraces along this route where one can comfortably linger.
