This walking tour goes through forests, over heaths and sand drifts
Hoog Buurlo is an old agricultural enclave in the middle of forests and the Hoog Buurlose Heide
For centuries, the same form of agriculture was practiced here, which is seen as an example of the potting barn culture. Arable farming, keeping sheep and chopping oak (tannic acid from oak bark was used in the tannery) provided the necessary income.
The fields and sheep drives still occur. The area called hoog Buurlo also has the same shape as three centuries ago: roughly a circular shape, bordered by beech avenues. Recently, work has been done on the construction of a new sheepfold. It was completed in 2009. The human habitation consists of two former farms and three inhabitants. In one of the farms, organ concerts were given between 1980 and 2007 by the then resident, architect Gert Boon, who had built the organ himself.
