The route leads along the small wooden houses of the Havenviertel in Marken, similar to those in Waterland and the Zaan region. In the distance lies Volendam with a view of the Gouwzee. Further on, you pass the dike that extends about 2 km into the Gouwzee, which is a remnant of the former plan to drain the Markerwaard, as well as a small dike leading to the lighthouse 'Het Paard'.
The walk also shows you some icebreakers that need to hold back the drifting ice in winter. The Markermeer is beside you, and eventually, you can stroll along the Werven, or 'Schuiven', as the Markers call them.
This walk is stage 8 of the LAW Zuiderzeepad (LAW 8).
