The circular hike begins at the fairytale-like Ekenstein, very close to the old historic town of Appingedam. You pass the Wierden village of Wirdum, along the old historic town path and beside the Tichelborg Rusthoven. Along the way, there are a few information boards with cultural and historical information. After the hike, it's delightful to have coffee in Ekenstein.
