Rhoonse Grienden. This is a recording from January 26, 2019. Grienden are wet fields where willow wood is cultivated. This has been happening for centuries in the Rhoonse and Carnisse Grienden. https://www.mooistewandelingen.nl/rhoonse-en-carnisse-grienden/
Between the willows, ditches run, supplying and draining water twice a day. The Grienden are located outside the dikes and are influenced by the tides. This means that the willows are constantly in moist soil. This is great for willows, while most other trees prefer dry feet.
Willow wood has many applications. It is used, for example, for baskets, fences, and so-called zinc pieces. Zinc pieces are mats made from willow wood that provide additional support to dikes and coastal protection structures. A newer application is willow wood as a biofuel.
