The observation tower offers a beautiful view over Kootwijkerzand.
As the climate became warmer (in the Holocene, about 10,000 years ago), the Veluwe became forested, but due to human activities (deforestation and grazing), heathland and drifting dunes emerged. Later, forests were replanted to stabilize the drifting dunes and for timber production.
