Description by the author

This route starts in Susteren (from the parking lot at Raadhuisplein) counterclockwise and goes over many car-free roads (except for agricultural traffic, such roads are called wirtschaftswegen in Germany) through the following areas: the valley of the Roode Beek/Rode Bach, the plateau of Doenrade, and the Selfkant (an agricultural area in Germany wedged between South and Central Limburg).

The first car-free road is just after one kilometer of cycling (when leaving Susteren). The route goes through the valley of the Roode Beek via many roads closed to car traffic and takes you into Germany (border crossing at Millen). After following the valley for a while, you need to cycle through the village of Tüddern, and then you follow the bike path through the valley of the Roode Beek (Rode Bach) to the town of Wehr. From Wehr you cycle on wirtschaftswegen to Hillensberg, which is also a namesake climb (the first real ascent on the route).

You quickly find yourself back in the Netherlands after reaching the top, and via Doenrade you cycle, often on car-free roads to Windraak over the plateau of Doenrade. After Windraak, short climbs follow one after another, and often the route goes over car-free roads. You will encounter the following climbs:
- Putherweg,
- Duistergatsken (note: you descend the steep Stammenderbos afterwards)
- Slakweg,
- Boompjesweg,
- Horbies,
- Hagendorenweg,
- Wilmenweg,
- Oude Misweg.
After rainy periods, sand may wash out from surrounding fields on some of these car-free roads (mainly at the foot of the climb).
Via Etzenrade you leave the Netherlands and cycle through the valley of the Rode Bach once more, with a short ascent in it.

Afterwards you cycle through the Selfkant with gently rolling landscapes. Between Breberen and Heilder, you cycle through and along the valley of the Saeffeler Bach, one of the few wooded areas in the Selfkant. You leave the Selfkant via the outskirts of Koningsbosch, descend the steep edge west of Koningsbosch and then cycle along the beautiful nature reserve Haeselaarsbroek. Via Europarcs Limburg (Hommelheide) you cycle back to Susteren.
