You leave Doetinchem from the western side and shortly ride along an unpaved road by castle Kelder. Then you cycle via Wittebrink and Oosterwijk to Varssel. You ride here over the Varsselring street circuit.

Via Estate 't Zelle and along castle Onstein, you cycle to Barchem, which lies at the foot of the Lochemseberg. There is no cycle path and paved road over this mountain, so you ride along the Lochemse Berg to the village of Zwiep.

You cross the Berkel river and come past the Nettelhorst castle ruins. Then you cross the Zutphen - Enschede canal and cycle towards Markelo. The area around Markelo is slightly hilly with hills no higher than 20 meters in elevation change. You go over the Kattenberg, Markelose Berg, de Hulpe, Herikerberg, Apenberg, and Friezenberg in succession. You take the latter partly over a cycle path with natural surfacing. You can choose to increase the share of unpaved roads by cycling on cycle paths with natural surfacing through the Borkeld nature area (the route will then be a few kilometers shorter).

Then you cycle towards Holten, still not in a direct line, but with detours to climb the Zuurberg via the Kwintenweg (no more than 15 meters in elevation change).

And then you arrive in Holten, passing through the north via a road along the railway line. Then there are more serious climbs:
the Beukenlaan Holten (narrow paved cycle path along a sandy road),
the Holterberg via the Motieweg (the steepest climb of the Sallandse Heuvelrug),
the Grote Koningsbelt,
the Hellendoornse Berg Zuid (narrow paved cycle path through the woods),
and finally the Eelerberg (Sanatoriumlaan).
The descent from the Eelerberg brings you to the holiday park.
