Description by the author

Last update: November 13, 2024, due to a change in the position of the gravel path along the Molenbeek of Lottum at its confluence with the Maas.

The route starts in Asten-Heusden and goes clockwise. 42% of the route is unpaved and runs through and along many nature reserves in North and Central Limburg. The beginning and end (first 10 km and last 7 km) of the route have relatively few to no gravel sections. The route is very varied and you cycle along many unpaved roads (mainly gravel roads), namely:
- along the Groote Peel (Kruisbaan),
- around Neerkant,
- along the Deurne Canal and the Helenavaart,
- along the Mariapeel,
- along the Zwarte Plak heath,
- along De Put,
- through the Schadijkse Bossen and the Groote Broek,
- along the Groote Molenbeek,
- along nature reserve Schuitwater,
- along the castle of Lottum (Borggraaf),
- through the floodplains of the Maas,
- through nature reserve Kaldenbroek,
- through agricultural landscape between Grubbenvorst and Horst,
- through nature reserve de Reulsberg,
- around Sevenum in agricultural area,
- through nature reserves Heesberg and Gelderse Heide,
- through the Breedschen Peel
- through nature reserve Marisberg,
- around Grashoek,
- along the canal of Deurne,
- and finally along the Groote Peel (southern edge).

Most gravel roads on this route are easily bikeable. Some gravel roads are not accessible to traffic, while others are; with intensive use of these roads by agricultural or forestry traffic, the gravel surfaces may locally be somewhat less good unpaved roadway. In addition, some unpaved roads (just west of Sevenum, namely the Steegbredeweg and the Heesbredeweg) may be less suitable for cycling with thin tires (i.e., racing bike tires) during a dry period (more sand than gravel).
